Phenomena presents the First Edition of the “Karl Jaspers Prize for Psychopathology and Neuroscience“.
The Prize will be awarded to Prof. Mario Maj, who will contribute a lectio magistralis:
“The ‘General Psychopathology’ of Jaspers 100 years later: its relevance for research and reflection in psychiatry and related disciplines“.
Mario Maj is a professor of Psychiatry at the University of Naples since 1985 and Director of the Department of Psychiatry at the Luigi Vanvitelli University. President of the World Psychiatric Association from 2008 to 2011, founder and director of the official World Psychiatry magazine, Mario Maj has offered enormous contributions to the areas of psychopathology and neuroscience, particularly in the area of Bipolar Disorder, including the clinical characterization of rapid cycling , psychotic depression and the study of the determinants of response to prophylaxis with lithium salts.
Prof. Mario Maj was a member of the Working Group on Mental Disorders for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association, in its fifth edition (DSM 5).
